On first watch, it’s easy to believe you are watching Tyler and Elena, and it’s understandable why Caroline and Damon wouldn’t even think to question it. But when you rewatch, you can actually pick up the subtle changes in Trevino and Dobrev’s performances. They are not playing Tyler and Elena, or even Klaus and Katherine, but Klaus-pretending-to-be-Tyler and Katherine-pretending-to-be-Elena.
